WOLFVILLE TALES

Stories from Tombstone, the Arizona Territory.... and Beyond!

At the turn of the 20th century came the proliferation of mass circulated magazines, a great advertising medium which prompted the need for editorial content.  One of the most popular magazines, and one many people still remember today, was the Saturday Evening Post.  Part of that content was supplied by fiction writers using stories of the old west as their subject.  Typically, the story would center on a fictitious town based on a real locale.  One prolific writer was Alfred Henry Lewis who based his stories on the city of Tombstone but called the town “Wolfville.”  Over time, and due greatly to the proliferation of Lewis's writing, the entire genre of this period came to be known as the "Wolfville genre".
